People Love Watching Video
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably gone down the rabbit hole that is YouTube for hours at a time. There is enough content on there that you couldn’t possibly watch one percent of what’s on there in your entire lifetime even if you could somehow overcome the need to eat and sleep. But let’s not get carried away since there’s work to be done.
While you’ve been going through video after video, you may have come to realize that businesses are also using this platform – and others like it – to help make themselves known to the public. And it’s not just a few companies either. In a study conducted by Forbes, 90% of digital marketers are using video in their business strategy. Why is this so important? Well, about 90% of people tend to retain information if it’s presented to them in a video than if they just read about it.
Those numbers are quite impressive, but they can only tell us so much. What you really need is to know how to make sure your company can use videos effectively to attract and retain customers.
The beauty of video today is that you can reach others on a real human level. We don’t even need to go out and buy really expensive camera equipment since every single one of us carry smartphones with impressive cameras in our pockets and can capture the world around us at any moment and share it instantly with our friends.

Video Make Human Connections
That human connection is an extremely important element to tap into. It’s also now easier than ever to obtain customer testimonials. Unboxing videos are some of the most popular videos on the Internet – there are thousands of channels on YouTube dedicated to them. Encouraging your customers to film themselves opening your product and giving their honest first opinions on what they do and how they work can be a fantastic way to help build brand awareness. People are also far more willing to trust happy customers before companies.
But this is where video can also be incredibly effective. Creating videos focused on your brand can help showcase your brand’s personality. With them you can answer the following questions:
- Who are the people working with you?
- What are their likes and dislikes?
- Why was this brand created in the first place?
- How is your product or service different from your competitors?
- Where do you want your brand to be in the future?
Use Video to Tell Your Story
Video can be a key component in telling the story of your brand. Here, you also have the chance to be creative. Sometimes the craziest, most absurd videos are the ones that stick in our minds, or you can deliver a message that buries itself deep and just tugs at people’s heartstrings. Sometimes, you don’t even need words to convey your message if you have powerful images. If you can successfully create that human connection people will be far more willing to share your videos with friends and family, therefore spreading your brand awareness further.
Don’t be afraid to use your analytics though. Having a solid grasp on your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ensures that you’re targeting the customers you want to attract. At first, it may seem like you’re shouting out into the void, but keep at it and keep retargeting when you need to. Watch what other companies are doing and adapt to make yourself stand out amongst the crowd.
So now let’s say you’ve created your video campaign and you’ve succeeded in attracting new customers and got some sales from them. Job done, right? Well, you could stop there, but then you’d be missing out on even more opportunities to help and retain your customers.
If possible send them a personal thank you video genuinely showing your gratitude. This may not always be practical depending on the size of your company, so you may need to create videos you send to all your customers. But you can still convey your personal thanks.
Perhaps your product or service is not the simplest thing to understand, or there are features that need a bit of an explanation. Creating product walk-through videos is a perfect way to tackle this issue. Take your customer step-by-step through how everything works, and even how to fix things if something goes wrong. It’s far less frustrating for customers to watch a how-to video than call someone over the phone for help. They can repeat parts of the video as many times as they want and go at their own pace. This should not be a replacement for one on one customer service, but it does help keep things running smoothly.
So there you have it! Go out and make video marketing a reality for your business. The rewards are well worth it.
